Lately, I have been spending every spare minute working on a number of different things. 10 minutes while Lucy reads? Sew a belt. Two hours for nap? Quilt something. It’s been really rewarding to feel like I am growing in my creative life, and maybe moving ahead.
What was also really nice was to be able to make a quilt that I loved and that I was able to give to Girls, Inc. Westchester for their Power of the Purse fundraiser. I’ve always admired the work that Girls, Inc. does for the young women in our communities, and they are really an amazing organization. I was honored to help out, and hope that they reached their goal when the final tally is made.
I learned last night that only 6% of our charitable giving in the U.S. goes to youth programs, and as I look at both of my kids–born into a good life by chance–I think of the opportunities we’re missing to help other kids have a bright future, that will in turn benefit us all as they become strong, bold, and empowered members of society.
