I bought a layer cake of “Honey Honey” by Kate Spain for Moda a couple months back, because I wanted to design a pattern for a layer cake, since that seems like something people tend to do. I wanted a big design to show off the different fabrics in chunks, and settled on what I think of as an “oculus”, which, as you probably know, is the Latin word for “eye”.
I also wanted to make a quilt for my 2 year old daughter that she could use on the big-girl bed she will someday get (I plan on keeping her confined to her crib as long as she will stay there thankyouverymuch since she’s a climber and has figured out how to get on top of everything, excepting her crib). Knowing the sometimes-fickle mind of a young girl’s powerful likes and dislikes, I also didn’t want to make a quilt that had nine thousand hours of piecing in it that I loved more than breathing but she hated and threw into the bushes outside. Tall order! Except I think this worked out pretty well, AND I got to use up a ton of white fabric scraps:
I have some big plans in mind for the quilting of this top. Should be fun when it’s all done! Hopefully I’ll have that to share soon.
