When it came time for our first kid to go to a big bed, we just used the bed we had on hand rather than get him a new one. This bed happened to be a queen-sized mattress! Recently, though, we’ve been trying to get the house organized, and realized that all his toys lived outside of his bedroom because there was no place in his room for them because of that giant bed.
FInally, four years after the transfer out of the crib, we’ve bitten the bullet and bought a twin for our little boy, and we’re going to make him the fram around it. If you’re at all handy (or reasonably sure you could be), and happen to like furniture from a certain furniture store in the mall that charges pretty high prices, then you should probably know about Ana White’s website. We’re making Jack’s bed (he chose the Simple Bed), and the style he picked will cost about $50-100 in supplies. My husband is a woodworker, so he’s picky about his stock.
I kind of wasn’t ready to give up the big bed because it’s nice for guests even if it’s in kind of rough shape (it’s almost 18 years old and kind of gross), but I console myself by knowing that the quilt I made with my little boy in mind (and which will be in August’s Modern Quilts Unlimited) will now fit his bed!
