There it is!! My quilt!
I made a quilt that was for RJR Fabrics at Quilt Market! The goal was to put as many fabrics on one quilt as possible, and carry on the theme of “Capture the Moment”. They were going to have various Polaroid-related accessories, and my quilt was going to be the central motif. Talk about being excited and a little freaked out!
I made a number of original sketches and plans, some quite elaborate. In the end, though, with the large number of different lines and fabrics (and another major and unexpected deadline cropped up that I can’t tell you about yet, but it is … really major), I decided to go super simple with the layout and let the fabrics be the center of attention. This also meant I decided that that the paper pieced Polaroid, which is about 14″ x 16″, was put off to the side instead of placed in the middle, so as not to be the focal point. I think it worked out really well, in the end. I used a grosgrain ribbon to make the stripe, and then repeated the rainbow motif on the back. Here’s a pic of the camera:
I loved how much fun it was to come up with such a big paper pattern, and I think that I met my goals of making the fabric the highlight. I *also* got to play around with doing some sketching and shading on the camera using my longarm, which was a ton of fun. I debated adding some intense quilting since it was a chance to show off, but again, thought it best to keep the fabrics the star, because, really, that was the whole point.
And here’s a picture of the back, because it was fun, too!
I think this would be a great quilt for “I Spy”. I’ll be working on a pattern for it, soon!
