I have a post over on the BERNINA blog, We All Sew where I talk about how I keep my bobbins neat and the thread from unwinding all over the place! Head on over and check it out, and while you’re there, be sure to check on the posts for their Countdown to Christmas.
While I have the M-class bobbins for my B790 and Q24, I know this can be adapted for L-class bobbins (you just need a different size of tubing).
How do you store your thread and bobbins? I saw there were some cute little bobby-pin looking things for matching bobbins with their spools, but I haven’t tried those yet, since I stick to neutrals in the bobbin and don’t often bother to match!
That’s because my other pet peeve is having just a smidge left on the bobbin and no quilt to use it on that needs that color. I hang on to my wound bobbins for longer than is normal, I’m sure, hoping that one day I will have a quilt requiring *just* the shade of aqua I’ve been
hoarding storing so carefully. Since I use a polyester thread most often for quilting, and a cotton thread for piecing, I can’t use the simple but awesome trick where you stick the bobbin on the thread spool and use that for piecing.
Unwinding bobbins is also a pain. I have started paying my kids a quarter for each bobbin they’ve de-threaded for me because I hate it so much. Since I switched to neutrals, though, I have had to offer them alternative sources of income, like picking up all the pins that have fallen on the floor, or folding fat quarters. Good times at our house!
How do you store your bobbins? Do you use a donut, bin, or other device? I am always looking for the next best thing!
