One of the unexpectedly awesome things about being an Ambassador for BERNINA is that I meet some seriously talented and cool people. Last year, I got to meet and become good friends with Jenelle Montilone of TrashN2Tees and getting to know her has been one of the greatest things about the last year. She’s cool, she’s funny, and she’s passionate: Jenelle literally wrote the book about how to upcycle used t-shirts into amazing projects, and has personally saved over 500,000 t-shirts from ending up in the landfill (as of 2014, so it’s waaaaay more than that now!).
Jenelle has a big goal this year: she wants to make a ball of t-shirt yarn from recycled tees so big that it will win a world record. Longest fingernails? fattest cat? oldest human being? That’s the kind of book my kids get excited about, and they’re totally geeked about contributing! As Jenelle says, though, “…most importantly we’re demonstrating how one small act, 5 minutes of your day, has the power to affect, inspire, and encourage others to change the way we consume and create.” I love that lady. Get to know her by checking out her blog, but also most definitely check out her massive number (400+) of tutorials! These projects can be very child-friendly, so consider checking them out with your budding sewists!
To help her kick of this lofty program, I’m going to be hosting a giveaway of her book!
This is open to everyone, with the following caveats: winners within the U.S. will receive a physical copy, and international winners will win an e-book. Giveaway will be open until Monday 1/11/16 at 8:00 AM.
To enter, leave a comment answering the following question: do you have a secret t-shirt collection, and what are you going to do with it? (I know my fella sure does… now I have something I can do with them!)

I want to slice some of my Tshirts. Circumsicing T-shirts like Adam Saaks does on Youtube. But I did not have the courage to start cutting!

I usually just cut them up for dust rags, coming from a generation before printed t shirts were the norm. Now I’m going to consider cutting them into yarn. It will remind me of the jersey loops on the woven pot holder frame.

I have made a few t-shirt quilts and other odds and ends, but would welcome more ideas!

seriously – this is such a great idea. Way more fun than what I use my old t-shirts for. LOL

I have a huge t-shirt stash that eventually end up as cleaning rags… but it is not happening fast enough. This sounds like a great idea!

I want to make a giant loom and use the t shirts as weaving material!

I do not wear many t-shirts but I cut my husband’s old ones into rags. Have always wanted to try making a t-shirt rug, though.
