Fashion inspiration for quilting, or quilting inspiration for fashion?

Did you see Anna Wintour’s dress for the Met Gala this year?  It’s kind of a chicken/egg thing, for me.  Which comes first, the dress that inspires the quilt, or the quilt that inspired the dress?
